I thought there was a lot of great information throughout chapter 5 that will help us with the unit. I wasn't very familiar with all the disabilities and how they really impacted a student, but the chapter definitely helped me to better understand how children with certain disabilities think. It gave many examples of a child with a specific learning disability in a way that helped those without them understand a little better. The chapter also gave various examples of education implications for specific disabilities. This will be great to look back on, so I will know what I need to do to ensure student improvement.
ReplyDeleteMore beneficial material I found included information on how a teacher should interact with a student who has a certain disability. I didn't fully realize how teacher interaction would help or harm a student with verbal disabilities. I also found the examples of technology for students with learning disabilities very helpful. The chapter showed different levels of technology we could use and different ways we could use it to benefit a student with a specific learning disability.
I also was not familiar with the various disabilities of students, so I agree that the chapter helped me understand a little more. The examples throughout the chapter were very detailed and useful. I think there are so many different ways to reach out and try to help/accommodate students, which we will only be able to touch on during this unit, but we will use so much in the future.
DeleteThe material from this chapter can help me with this unit in many ways. This unit is all about planning out our own lesson plan. As any good teacher should want, we need to devise a plan to teach the students in a way that meets all their various needs. The chapter starts by going over different ways to identify students with particular needs; this can be helpful not only with this unit but in real life, because if a teacher is able to identify the different needs of the students then it is easier to make accommodations in order to help them reach their full potential. I was shocked at how much I didn't know about all of the characteristics of students with learning disabilities. After reading the chapter I feel like I know more and would be better suited to adjust my plans if I knew a student has certain needs. The whole section over inclusive practices is very helpful, especially when planning activities for this unit.
ReplyDeleteI found the inclusion practices very important too. This is a huge factor in creating a successful classroom and effective lesson plans. I also agree that there are so many ways to accommodate our lessons for all types of students, and this chapter is a great resource to go back to anytime that we encounter a new student with a different disability than we've seen before. I think this is especially useful for us since we were so unaware of the different disabilities students had and the ways they're affected by them.
