Blog #4 Position Paper Topics

Post your top three choices for Position Paper potential topics (I want you two to pick something different!).

So list those three topic choices and say which you MOST want to do, then make your arguments for the topic you most prefer to research and write about...what motivated you to pick it? What do you already know about it? Why do you think it is worth researching and writing about? Post by Wednesday June 14 at midnight and respond by Friday, June 16th.

  1. 1. Elimination of Fine arts (music, art, PE)
    2. Flipped classroom
    3. 4-day school week

The topic I'd really like to write about is the elimination of fine arts in schools. I got a little bit of insight on this topic in a class I took last semester and I found it to be a very important element in schools, especially for students with special needs. I would love to research more about this topic to get an even better idea of the importance of integrating these arts into schools.

    1. It's so disturbing that administrations don't see the importance of it. People would be so up in arms if there was talk of eliminating sports, yet nearly as many kids are touched by art, music, band, choir, etc. as they are by sports. Community programs will hopefully fill in where schools don't, but for some students, they live for their electives.

    2. Yes! That's what people don't realize, and it's astonishing to me that some don't understand how much electives do for some students, as sports do for others.

    3. I think all three of those options would be very interesting. If I could choose any other topic, it would be about extra-curricular activities and their importance. I think you will find some interesting opinions on your topic, but seriously I don't understand how people don't see the importance of athletics and the fine arts.

  2. A topic that I am really interested in would be the benefits of Bilingual classroom compared to a traditional classroom where only English is spoken. Because I am going to minor in Spanish, I have a somewhat unspoken love for the language and the culture behind it! I am interested in what I will come across in my research, because even though I think I might love the idea of a bilingual classroom, I am curious to learn more about why it might be better to stick with tradition.

  3. I think you'll find some very interesting thoughts on your topic! I didn't realize you had such a passion for the language and culture, I've never really been exposed to other languages and their cultures. This is probably why I've also never thought about a bilingual classroom instead of just the traditional one, so I'm curious as to what you'll find in your research. Maybe if I had been exposed to a bilingual classroom, I would have gained more knowledge on other cultures!
